AI and the Quest for Better Information Security
Some organizations are leaning on technology, particularly AI, as the answer for better security. Over 70% of IT professionals say they are prioritizing generative AI for use in cybersecurity.8
Without question, technology is a critical element needed to protect against growing cyber threats. But can AI and other security technologies eliminate the need for a CISO?
Technology is only one piece of an overall security program, albeit it is a fundamentally critical one. Firewalls, endpoint protection, identity and access management, threat hunting, automated detection and response, and data security all require specialized technology solutions fitted together into a security architecture to protect against threats.

One of the weakest links in cybersecurity, however, is the human element.
Phishing and social engineering remain two of the most effective ways adversaries penetrate networks by stealing credentials or duping employees into implanting malware. All companies are vulnerable to this type of attack. One study by Barracuda Networks found that workers at small and mid-sized companies experienced 350% more social engineering attacks than those at larger enterprises.9
A CISOs job is complex and multi-faceted.
When it comes to security, CISOs are responsible for strategy, technology, processes, compliance, and training. Technology alone, no matter how sophisticated it is, can’t do all of this for you—and all of these elements are required to reduce the risk of being a victim of an attack.
